
Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Argentina with concurrent accreditation to Uruguay Mammad Ahmadzade has today presented his credentials to Uruguayan President Jose Mujica.
During the meeting, the diplomat conveyed President Ilham Aliyev`s greetings and best wishes to the Uruguayan President. President Jose Mujica asked the ambassador to pass on his greetings and best wishes to the Azerbaijani leader.
Ahmadzade said Azerbaijan had ancient and rich historical and cultural heritage. He briefed the President on Azerbaijan`s achievements after getting its independence, its leading role in the region, regional cooperation and the country`s important role in global energy security.
Ahmadzade also spoke about the country`s international influence, foreign diplomacy, and development of the relations with Latin American countries.
The diplomat noted Azerbaijan was interested in developing relations with Uruguay. Mujica said Uruguay and Azerbaijan enjoy wide potential for cooperation. The President stressed the necessity of joint activity for development of relationship between the two countries.
They exchanged views on development of bilateral and multilateral relations, organization of high-level reciprocal visits, opportunities for cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and investment.
They underlined the importance of expanding ties in the humanitarian, cultural and sports fields. They also hailed Uruguay`s participation in the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan.
The President and the ambassador discussed regional issues, as well as the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Ahmadzade informed the Uruguayan President about Azerbaijan`s stance on the settlement of the conflict.
