'Greece keen on raising level of relations with Azerbaijan'

Greece intends to raise the level of bilateral relations with Azerbaijan to the strategic partnership, Greek ambassador to Azerbaijan Ioannis Metaxas said at a conference on the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"Over the past 20 years the two countries established a serious political dialogue, economic relations are at a good level, business relations are established between the two countries, there is also a strong legal basis, and all of this indicates that the relations between the two countries can enter a new level," Metaxas said.

According to Metaxas, the relations between the two countries in the humanitarian and tourism spheres are also at the proper level, and new projects are implemented to study the Greek language in Azerbaijan.

"The economic crisis in Greece had no effect on the relations between our countries and we intend to further promote our relations," Metaxas underscored.

Greek Embassy in Azerbaijan was opened in 2002, while Azerbaijani Embassy in Greece - in 2004.
