Azerbaijani authorities, regardless of political position, views and opinions, consider unacceptable interference with the privacy of any journalist, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Political Analysis and Information Provision Department head Elnur Aslanov told Azerbaijani reporters today. He was commenting on posting on the Internet of a video about the personal life of an employee of the Azerbaijani Service of Radio Liberty, Khadija Ismayilova.
In a democratic society protection of privacy of citizens is a key element of the rights and freedoms. The Azerbaijani Constitution ensures rights and freedoms of every citizen of Azerbaijan, regardless of language, religion, ethnicity and social status, protects from unlawful interference with his private life and lives of his family, the statement says.
"We consider this video as part of propaganda campaign of provocative groups trying to disrupt stability in Azerbaijan, harm the international image of the country and create tension and confusion in the community," Aslanov said.
Azerbaijan's law enforcement agencies, investigating this matter, will do their best to reveal and punish individuals and forces behind these dirty deeds.
The Azerbaijani authorities strongly condemn interference with Ismayilova's privacy and believe in the soonest restoration of the truth.
