Azerbaijan, Indonesia boost legal coop

Chairman of Azerbaijan Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev met with newly-appointed Indonesian ambassador Raden Prayono Atiyanto on Wednesday.

Congratulating the ambassador on his new appointment, Farhad Abdullayev said that Indonesia was one of the first counties to recognize Azerbaijan after restoration of its independence in 1991.

He also underlined Indonesia`s support in the election of Azerbaijan as a non-permanent member of UN Security Council last year. Mr. Abdullayev recalled the visit of the Indonesian Constitutional Court`s chairman in 2011 to Azerbaijan and noted common features of both countries` constitutional courts.

He pointed out the Azerbaijan Constitutional Court closely cooperate with relevant bodies of the European countries. “We are interested in cooperation with Asian countries, too. A gathering for the establishment of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts will be held in Seoul, Korea in May. The chairman of the Indonesian Constitutional Court will also partake in the event and we will have opportunity to hold experience exchange with him,” he added.

The ambassador, in turn, noted that Azerbaijan and Indonesia are friendly and fraternal countries and cooperate in all spheres.

Raden Prayono Atiyanto underlined that official Jakarta always supports Azerbaijan in international organizations and would increase its efforts for expanding bilateral relationship.
Touching the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Mr. Atiyanto said that Indonesia supports Azerbaijan`s fair position in conflict settlement.
