Azerbaijan, India discuss ICT cooperation

Azerbaijani ambassador to India Ibrahim Hajiyev has met Kapil Sibal, the country`s Minister of Human Resource Development and Communication and Information Technology.

Hajiyev said Azerbaijan attaches great importance to development of economic cooperation with India. He said the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relationship between Azerbaijan and India was marked in both countries. The ambassador noted that on this occasion ten Indian youngsters were invited to Azerbaijan by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The diplomat also spoke of the economic development of Azerbaijan, particularly accomplishments in non-oil sector. Hajiyev pointed out trade turnover between Azerbaijan and India was $411 million in 2011. The ambassador also noted his country was interested in expansion of cooperation with India in ICT sector.

Hajiyev said participation of Azerbaijani ICT experts in courses organized in India contributes to deepening bilateral cooperation. The ambassador also briefed the Indian Minister on the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway and AzerSat, Azerbaijan`s first satellite in space to be launched into orbit this year.

On behalf of Azerbaijan`s ICT Minister, Hajiyev invited Sibal to participate in “BakuTel-2012” International Communications and Information Technology exhibition.

For his part, Sibal said India was interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan in boosting cooperation in economic sphere, particularly ICT sector. The Indian Minister was handed over DVDs made by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and book entitled “Azerbaijan Carpets”.
