First lady of Croatia tours Baku - PHOTOS

The first lady of Croatia Tatyana Josipovic has today visited the National History Museum of Azerbaijan. The guest was informed on the history of the museum.

The museum building was built in 1895-1897 and it was the residence of famous entrepreneur and philanthropist of Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev. The building began its activity as a museum in 1920.

The guest viewed the displays concerning Albania, Atropatene and Shirvanshah, historical states in present-day Azerbaijan. The museum operates as scientific research and cultural-enlightenment institution under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS).

About 300 thousand patterns immortalizing the history of Azerbaijani nation are saved in various funds of the museum. The first lady also familiarized themselves with items of the Memorial House-Museum of Haji Zeynal Abdin Tagiyev. Tatyana Josipovic signed the museum`s guests book.

The first lady of Croatia Tatyana Josipovic has today visited Sehrli Ilmeler (Magic Stitches) gallery owned by Azerilma Ltd, a carpet weaving company. The guest was briefed on the carpet weaving, one of the oldest and most traditional forms of art in Azerbaijan.

For centuries Azerbaijan had been a country of various handicrafts, particularly carpet-making. Azeri carpets adorn many museum and private collections in the world.

The first lady was informed that Azerilma Ltd. was established in order to revive and enable the further development of the traditional Azerbaijani carpet-weaving art which has materially and spiritually enriched the world culture with its unique examples of carpets. At the same time Azerilma contributes to the popularization of this unique art through its carpet sales organized worldwide. The company commenced its activity in 1996. The professional staff of Azerilma Ltd. comprises 350 people. There are many designers, arts critics, carpet-weavers, dyers and other specialists amongst them. Products of Azerilma were awarded with the prizes and diplomas of the exhibitions held in US, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and Russia.

For its activity, the Company was awarded the European Quality Award of the “United Europe” and “Leaders of the 21st Century” image programs run by the European Business Assembly.
