The stubborn resistance made to France's adoption of the law criminalizing the denial of the fictional "Armenian genocide" and joint actions related to the Khojaly genocide, were welcomed by the Azerbaijani and Turkish presidents, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Social and Political Department Chief Ali Hasanov told Trend today.

"Last week, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was interviewed by Turkish television and conveyed the Azerbaijani government's gratitude to the Turkish public, all social and political figures for their support for holding the remembrance ceremonies of Khojaly genocide victims," he said. "It was stressed during these events that Turkey and Azerbaijan are two fraternal countries serving common goals and interests. The peoples of these countries represent a single nation. They act on the basis of the common interests. They act together, as it was until today."

Moreover, President Aliyev once again informed about the work done by the Azerbaijani government to cancel the anti-Turkic law passed by the French Senate. He stressed that the coordinated activity of both countries gave a positive result, he added.

Hasanov said that on March 3 Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan phoned Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and thanked him for all this work and conveyed the Turkish government's gratitude. The Turkish side also thinks that the Azerbaijani government, Azerbaijani community, Azerbaijanis living in the world, the Azerbaijani parliament, in particular, President Aliyev and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation have great merits in preventing France's adoption of the law on "genocide". They have conducted important work with France's friendship group. For all this, the Turkish government expressed its gratitude to Azerbaijan.

"The Azerbaijani President and Turkish Prime Minister have exchanged the views on further joint activity to inform the international community about other problems of the Turkic world and their international recognition," he said. "The views on the coordination of further activity have been voiced."
