Azerbaijan and Iran have much in common in various areas, including in terms of culture, history and religion, but the relationship between the two countries should be at a higher level, the head of Institute for Political and International Studies under the Iranian Foreign Ministry Mostafa Dolatyar told reporters in Baku.

"Relations should be at a higher level. Relations between Azerbaijan and Iran in the economic sphere are at low level, they should be improved. Cooperation in science and culture is also not high. Unfortunately, there are certain third forces creating obstacles for the development of relations between the two countries," he noted.

Dolatyar said politicians, scientists and intellectuals of both countries must find ways to eliminate these barriers and develop relations.

"I believe that the research centers of Azerbaijan and Iran can play an effective role in the search for these ways. We, as an advanced political and international research center of Iran, at meetings with Azerbaijani friends during the current visit, expressed willingness to cooperate in all fields and provide help," Dovletyar said.
