'Azerbaijan to be gateway to region for Argentina'

Azerbaijan will become the gateway to the region for Argentina, Argentine Foreign Minister Hector Timerman told journalists following talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in Baku on Friday.

"Argentina is interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan in all areas and our countries with the rich natural resources have great potential," Mr Timerman said. He said Argentina plans to open an embassy in Baku to strengthen relations not only in economic, but in political areas.

Both countries can also successfully cooperate within international organisations, which requires establishment of intensive political dialogue, Mr Timerman said.

"Argentina and Azerbaijan are countries suffering from conflicts and successful cooperation in international organisations will be effective for both sides," he added.
