'Azerbaijan is close friend and important ally of U.S.'

Congressman from Texas Gene Green issued a statement on the 20th anniversary of establishment of Azerbaijan-US diplomatic relations. Green said Azerbaijan is a close friend and important ally of the US. He stressed that Azerbaijan is one of the countries joining counter-terrorism fight and sending military contingents to Afghanistan and Iraq. Azerbaijan contributes to ensuring energy security at the international level. Congressman said he, together with the new Azerbaijani ambassador Elin Suleymanov, would spare no efforts towards strengthening Azerbaijan-US relations.

The US Representative for North Carolina`s 5th congressional district Virginia Foxx also hailed Azerbaijan-US ties. She stated that the two countries `are working together` for security and welfare.

Foxx called on her colleagues to commemorate Khojaly massacre victims, saying Khojaly town of Azerbaijan was occupied by Armenian forces 20 years ago and 613 civilians were killed brutally. She underlined that Americans have to commemorate this tragedy taking into consideration deepening Azerbaijan-US relations.
