Azerbaijan and Turkey’s struggle defeat Paris

01 March 2012 [18:14] - TODAY.AZ
The adoption of a bill criminalizing denial of the so called "Armenian genocide" by the French Senate, which is contrary to freedom of expression and thought, but in view of President Nicolas Sarkozy, on the contrary, embodies these freedoms, in fact was an act directed against the Turks around the world.

Though many Western and Armenian media outlets assessed the adoption of the bill as a triumph for "democracy and freedom of speech," the law trampled the principles of "freedom, equality and fraternity," considered to be the motto of the French republic, and was made a sacrifice to interests of a group of MPs.

In general, steps were taken contradicting the Constitution of France while voting for the bill. It is no coincidence that only those MPs, who supported the bill participated in the voting on the bill in the French Parliament, which has become a tool of the Armenian lobby and support to Armenian interests.

Under the Constitution of France, it is unacceptable to put political pressure or bring to criminal responsibility any member of parliament for fulfilling his powers. But despite this, the MPs who opposed the bill, was "recommended" not to participate in the voting.

Despite all efforts and attempts of President Sarkozy and the world Armenian lobby, the Constitutional Council of France repealed a law criminalizing denial of the so-called "Armenian genocide" on Tuesday.

Of course, Azerbaijan and Turkey have taken joint steps for the repeal of the bill.

Repealing the law was a triumph of freedom of expression and opinion and the joint policy pursued by Azerbaijan and Turkey. In this regard, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said he welcomes the fair decision of the Constitutional Council of France and assesses it as a manifestation of freedom of expression and thought.

At the same time, the president lauded the appeal of a group of French Senate members to the French Constitutional Council, calling for the abolition of the law.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul said that France escaped great disgrace, and stressed that it is a shame to use this issue in the pre-election campaign. Constitutional Council prevented this disgrace.

Today media outlets reported that a new bill criminalizing denial of the so-called "Armenian genocide", which the French president instructed to develop, will not be discussed by the Senate before the presidential elections in France scheduled for June.
