Azerbaijan keen on boosting ties with Southeast Asia via Singapore

Azerbaijan intends to intensify relations with the countries of Southeast Asia through Singapore, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Indonesia, who is also accredited to Singapore, Tamerlan Garayev said at a meeting with Singapore's Foreign Minister Kasiviswanathan Shanmugam .

Azerbaijan is interested in developing relations with Singapore, particularly on the economic front; the embassy quotes Mr Garayev as saying.

Stressing the importance of mutual visits of both countries' officials, the Azerbaijani diplomat invited Mr Shanmugam to visit Azerbaijan. He also proposed to hold political consultations between both countries' foreign ministries and initiated the establishment of an inter-parliamentary friendship group and inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation.

Mr Shanmugam expressed his country's willingness to expand cooperation with the South Caucasus region, stressing that Singapore's main activity in this region focuses on Azerbaijan.

The importance of creating a legal framework between the two countries was also stressed at the meeting and it was agreed to prepare agreements within a year.
