Azerbaijan eyes amendments to Criminal Code

It was proposed to consider amendments to the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan to hold legal entities criminally liable at the plenary session of the Parliament.

Amendments to national laws envisages punishment of legal entities in the form of a fine, special confiscation, confiscation of property of legal entities and liquidation of legal entities, chairman of the Committee of the Parliament on Legal Policy and State Building Ali Huseynli said at the meeting.

He said making legal entities criminally liable is adopted in Europe, as well as in the Baltic states and Georgia.

"This amendment to the legislation is also required by international conventions to which Azerbaijan joined," he said. MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev proposed to fully confiscate property of the legal entity in it finances terrorist groups.

Chairman of the State Securities Committee (SSC) Rufat Aslanli noted that Azerbaijan has improved the legal framework to combat terrorism financing and money laundering.

"This has been confirmed by international institutions. Bill proposed in this connection seeks to fulfill our previous commitments, and also introduces a new structure in legal policy," he said.

The bill envisages partial confiscation of property of a legal entity.
