'Azerbaijan's growing int'l prestige recognized'

17 February 2012 [12:39] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani MP Aydin Mirzazade in assessing the country's forthcoming participation in a meeting of foreign ministers of the G20 sees it as a vivid indicator of the country's growing international prestige.

"As a rule countries which draw attention towards their development and observe international norms and principles are invited to G20 meetings," Mr Mirzazade told Trend on Friday. He added that Azerbaijan is one such vivid example today.

Mr Mirzazade considers the invitation to such an authoritative meeting as recognition of the country's political authority, its growing power, as well as turning it from being a regional leader to one which plays an important role in global processes. MP Mirzazade also believes that Azerbaijan will be invited to such forums in the future.

"The day when Azerbaijan's accession to the G20 will turn the group of 20 to G21, is not far away," he said. Azerbaijan became one of the 10 countries which are currently not included in this group, but received an invitation to the meeting with this status.
