French senators try to repeal "Armenian genocide" law

French Senators collected the required number of signatures demanding repeal of a law criminalizing denial of the so-called "Armenian genocide", TRT Haber TV channel reported.

The Senators collected 70 signatures instead of fixed 60 and, thus, today they will appeal to the Constitutional Council.

After an eight-hour debate, the French senate adopted the bill. Some 127 senators voted in favor, while 86 senators voted against it on Jan. 23.
