Azerbaijan mulls bill on political parties

The bill on 'Political Parties' in Azerbaijan will be discussed at the spring session of the Azerbaijani Parliament, the head of the Parliament Administration Safa Mirzoyev said at a press conference today. It will focus on the results of the legislators last year and plans for the spring session.

The current law on 'Political Parties' was adopted in 1992. The new bill includes a number of major changes. In particular, it is planned to finance political parties directly from the state budget. It is necessary to collect at least 5000 signatures to create the party. The bill was previously discussed in the CE Venice Commission.
