'Millennium Falcon' seen on sonar images of Baltic Sea

02 August 2011 [13:30] - TODAY.AZ
Sonar images taken by a team of Swiss treasure hunters scouring the ocean discovered the wookie's whoopsie and left the ship's crew in no doubt about it's similarities with the George Lucas inspired Star Wars spaceship.

The 'intriguing craft' is nestled on the floor of the sea bed around 100 metres below the surface and Peter Lindberg head of the Ocean Explorer undersea diving team said he'd never seen anything like it before.

'We had been looking for sunken treasure of the Sea of Bothnia in the northern Baltic Sea,' explained the expeditions leader.

'We had been looking for champagne, wine and cognac laying in the holds of small Swedish merchant ships sunk by the Germans during the first world war.

'But in June we picked up this image during a sonar survey of the sea floor. I have never seen anything like it despite hundreds of hours of viewing sonar images.

'Unfortunately we don't have the money to investigate further.'
