A monument to great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi will be erected in Villa Borghese park in Rome, Italy, as part of a series of events to mark the outstanding figure`s 870th anniversary.
The monument will be erected in accordance with President Ilham Aliyev`s executive order on celebration of Ganjavi`s anniversary and promotion of its heritage in the world.
According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the monument will be erected under auspices of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and with close participation of the Azerbaijani embassy in Italy.
The project was approved by the Rome City Hall Commission on the history and art.
The authors of the monument are people`s artist Salhab Mammadov and honored artist Ali Ibadullayev who made a monument to victims of the Khojaly genocide for Berlin.
The lyrics of Nizami Ganjavi are considered to be the gem of the world poetry with its high mastery, secular attitude to love, humanistic thoughts about human destiny. He made a unique contribution to the treasury of world literature and philosophical thought.
