NGO: Azerbaijan has more alternative inflation rate than official rate

Azerbaijan recorded 0.73% inflation in April and 6.82% compared to the same period in 2009, the Economic Research Center reported today.
The consumer price index grew by 0.08 percent in Baku and 0.02 percent in the regions. The consumer price index over four months grew by 2.47 in Azerbaijan.

The most significant price increase in April was observed on prices of pear at 7.11%, vermicelli at 4.47% and lemon  at 3.37%. The most significant drop in prices was observed on non-food item medicine Validol at 4.23%.

The decline was observed on prices of cucumbers - at 25.24%, fish - 6.48%, bananas - 4.08 %, greenhouse tomatoes - 13.89% and  Eggplant - 6.65%.

These figures are based on surveys conducted by NGOs in 22 regions of Azerbaijan in March in the framework of the "calculation of inflation and alternative development model" funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco).

Based on the State Statistics Committees's data, in April 2010 prices for consumer goods and services in Azerbaijan remained at the March figure. However, food prices grew by 0.1%, while non-food products decreased by 0.3%, tariffs on services remained unchanged.
