Life in Baku more expensive than in Washington

By the level of cost of living Baku outstrips most cities of the United States, including Washington, Philadelphia, San Diego, Baltimore, Miami, British Glasgow and Birmingham, Canadian Montreal and many other cities, not speaking of the capitals of former Soviet Republics.

These are the data of the international rating of cost of living, according to Worldpress. The rating included 276 cities, while New York, ranking 50 place with the expensiveness index 100 was taken as a basis. The indexes of costs of living in all of the rest cities of the world including into the rating were defined as compared with the cost of the same goods and services in this US cities.

The most expensive city in the world is Tokyo (Japan) with 126.03, followed by Oslo (Norway) (123.74), Copenhagen (Denmark) (121.11), Geneva (Switzerland) (119.59), Brazil (Brazil), (118.53), London (Great Britain) (118.23) and others. The first top of most expensive cities is completed by Moscow (Russia) with 113.41.

As for the Azerbaijani capital, Baku is ranking 75th with the expensiveness index of 92.76, following just three capitals among the former USSR states, Moscow, Kiev (43 place, 101.2) and Tallinn (64, 95.08), leaving behind all the rest cities and most cities of the United States, for example Washington (78 place, 91.8), Philadelphia (79, 91.49), San-Diego (83, 90.7), Baltimore (90, 89.25), Miami (110, 85.54) and others.

Moreover, cost of living in Baku is higher than in British Glasgow (91, 88.88), Birmingham (116, 84.76) and Canadian Montreal (117, 84.37).

By the way, Baku's neighbors in the region - Tbilisi and Yerevan- take 127 and 140 places with indexes 82.03 and 80.13 respectively.
