SOCAR and DAAD sign joint scholarship program

State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) signed joint scholarship program.

The document was signed by DAAD Secretary General Christian Bode and SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev, APA-Economics reports.

Rovnag Abdullayev said education program is being implemented in Azerbaijan since 2006 and there is need for specialists in developing country.

"Firstly 2000 and then 5000 students will have chance to get education abroad. Germany is one of the leading countries of the world according to its development level and firstly 10 students will get education in this country. 50 more students are expected to be educated abroad in the frame of the program," he said.

Christian Bode said DAAD promotes cooperative international academic and scientific exchange for students and faculties. He also noted that there are 250 000 foreign students in his country, 300 of them are Azeris.

The students that got this scholarship will study in Germany in winter session of 2007-2008 academic year. Education fee for each student is $16-17 000.
