Baku hosts Azerbaijan-Jordanian business forum

Azerbaijani-Jordanian business forum took place in Baku today.

The forum was organized by Azeri Economic Development Ministry and Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AzPromo) within Jordanian Prime Minister Marouf al-Bakhit's visit to Baku.

Azerbaijani first Deputy Premier Yagub Eyyubov told the forum that commercial relations between Azerbaijan and Jordan are not in the desirable level.

"I urge Azerbaijani businessmen to be very active for establishing joint ventures," he said.

Deputy Minister Economic Development Mikayil Jabbarov said Azerbaijan enjoys this highest GDP per capita.

"Azerbaijan's economic growth was 26.4% last year, and reached 34% in nine-month period of this year," he said.

Jordanian Minister for Industry and Trade Sharif al-Zubi briefed the participants about economic climate of Jordan.

"Construction, energy, water, finance, telecommunications and transport grew more dynamically in the economy of Jordan this year. Besides, medicine-making, vet service, agriculture, furniture and tourism have developed. We expect the medicine turnover between Jordan and foreign countries to reach $1bn in 2010," he said.

Azpromo and Jordanian Enterprise Development Corporation, Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jordanian Chamber of Trade and Chamber of Industry signed understanding memorandums.

The event was attended by over 30 Jordanian and 50 Azerbaijani businessmen.

Jordanian National Exhibition was also held in Baku, APA reports.
