02 November 2006 [11:15] - TODAY.AZ
The Global Information Technology Report, using the Networked Readiness Index (NRI), covering a total of 115 economies in 2005-2006, to measure the degree of preparation of a nation or community to participate in and benefit from ICT development and application, has been released.

The NRI is composed of three component indexes which assess: the environment for ICT offered by a given country or community, the readiness of the community's key stakeholders - individuals, business and governments, and the usage of ICT among these stakeholders.

Communications and Information Technologies Ministry of Azerbaijan told APA that Azerbaijan was ranked 73rd, following Kazakhstan (60th) and Russia (72nd).  Other CIS states, Ukraine took 76th place, Armenia 86, Moldova 94th and Georgia 96th. The US has climbed four places this year to bump Singapore out of the top spot in ICT, leaving Denmark in the third place.

Azerbaijan was not included in the rankings of 104 countries in 2004.

Since it was first launched in 2001, the Global Information Technology Report has become a valuable and unique benchmarking tool to determine national ICT strengths and weaknesses, and to evaluate progress.

It also highlights the continuing importance of ICT application and development for economic growth.
