Social protection bodies registered 12.7 percent of foreigners working in Azerbaijan

20 September 2006 [10:01] - TODAY.AZ
Foreigners working for BP-Azerbaijan will be attracted to state compulsory social insurance, State Social Protection Foundation chief Salim Muslumov said.

He said he has met with BP-Azerbaijan vice-president on financial and economic affairs, APA reports.

"It is planned to involve foreigners in compulsory social insurance from January. But some legal agreements say Azerbaijani government’s decisions won’t be included in the agreements if they are deteriorating the terms of agreements. We told BP-leadership that they can appeal to a court if they don't agree to insurance of all employees. Or they can request relevant state bodies for amendments to the legislation."

Mr. Muslumov said problems with insurance of BP employees will be solved by this year's end.

At the end of year the Foundation will demand BP to not only pay insurance fees but also default penalty for unpaid period. He said only 1 570 or 12.7 percent of foreign employees are registered by labor and Social protection Ministry while about 20 000 foreigners work in Azerbaijan.
