CATEL installed CDMA station in Mingechevir

The Joint Venture CATEL completed installation of the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) wireless communication main station in Mingechevir.

The CDMA network of CATEL operates in Baku, Absheron peninsula, Sumgait, Ganja, Nabran and Shamkir at present. In future, the Company plans to install analogous stations in all regions of the republic.

The number of subscribers of CATEL reached 20 thousand, 6.5 thousand of which use the CDMA network. Total capacity of the CDMA network of CATEL consist of 50 thousand numbers at present, and as the demand grows, the existing capacity of the network will be expanded to 100 thousand numbers by means of new modules starting from the second half of this year. Although the Company has been providing 3G CDMA services since the middle of 2003, official opening of the network took place on August 13, 2004.

CATEL JV was founded by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan and Omni-Metromedia Caspian Ltd. Consortium of the USA in 1999 and is wireless communication operator, APA reports.
