"Green corridors", allowing to remove barriers to trade with regional countries, will start to operate in Azerbaijan’s Customs points within one or two months.

Shahin Bagirov, Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee announced about this on May 6.

“We plan to launch “green corridors”, targeting to facilitate cargo transportation, this or next month,” he said adding that all depends on the documentation procedures.

Noting that an international experience has been applied while creating the "green corridors", he added that the committee did not copy the experience of other countries, but adapted the system for local businesses through using international experience.

“Preparations already entered the final stage. The main goal of the "green corridors" is application of the simplified customs procedures and provision of customs payments,” he said.

Bagirov went on to add that the "green corridors" will be applied both on land and sea borders.

The creation of “green corridors” is expected to allow the country to increase the export potential of the non-oil sector and enjoy a fruitful cooperation with foreign countries.

The country has already had an agreement with the customs services of Russia and Kazakhstan to establish a "green corridor".

The agreement with Russia was reached in February 2015. The agreement has created the conditions for the smooth transit of the agricultural products of vegetable origin through the "green corridor". It’s about perishable products and processed products, with the exception of excisable goods.

Kazakhstan is another country, with which Azerbaijan inked such an agreement. Experts believe that establishment of a "green corridor" between the two countries will allow Azerbaijan to export non-oil product to the Kazakh market in huge volumes.
