Azerbaijan reduced its car production in January-February.

The country built 38 cars, which is 74.1 percent less than in the same period last year, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee’s reported.

Some 77 trucks were produced in the reporting period - 15.4 percent less than in the same period in 2014.

Around 186 trucks were produced in Azerbaijan in January-February 2015, which is 14.3 percent less than in the same period in 2014, confirmed the report.

Currently, two plants manufacturing vehicles – Nakhchivan and Ganja automobile plants – operate in Azerbaijan.

Overall, last year was marked by a cars import decrease and a car production increase in Azerbaijan. The import decreased 40 percent as a result of the introduction of Euro-4 ecological standard in April 2014.

At present, only cars produced in the EU since 2005, in the U.S. since 2004, in China and Japan since 2011, in Korea since 2006, and in Turkey since 2009 can be imported to the country.

The country manufactured 1,861 cars in 2014, which is 4.4 times more than in the same period in 2013. The introduction of the Euro-4 is a chance to enlarge Azerbaijan car production.

The increase in car production in 2014 follows a decrease in production in 2013, when the country produced 424 cars, which was 21.8 percent less than in 2012. However, overall a two-time increase has been recorded in comparison with 2005.

The government forecasts the volume of truck production in the country will reach 250 units in 2015, in 2016 and 2017 is expected to stay on a 300 units' production.
