Great Britain to assess potential of Azerbaijani business

30 September 2014 [13:03] - TODAY.AZ
A delegation of representatives from large British companies will arrive in Baku on September 30 to discuss the business opportunities of Azerbaijan and Great Britain, a statement posted on the webpage of the British Embassy in Azerbaijan says.

"British companies are interested in assessing the business potential of Azerbaijani companies working in the fields of education and telecommunications,” a statement says. “In this regard, businessmen of the two countries will exchange experience to support the development of the economy of Azerbaijan."

“There is a long-standing business and economic relationship between the UK and Azerbaijan,” Mark Higgins, International Trade Adviser (ITA) for UKTI, said. “The United Kingdom remains the largest foreign investor in Azerbaijan with over 300 British companies operating in the country.”

“The British companies on this trade mission are looking forward to meeting their counterparts in Azerbaijan in order to identify potential customers, partners and ‘win win’ opportunities,” he said.

A business forum will be held in Baku with the support of Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy and Industry as part of the British delegation’s visit on Oct. 2.

The foreign trade turnover between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland reduced twofold during the year, amounting to $566.78 million in January-August.

The goods worth $443.884 million were imported to Azerbaijan as of eight months, while goods worth $122.896 million were exported, according to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee.
