/AzerNews/ Azerbaijan Railways will receive back 26 carriages refurbished in Ukraine and Russia, the company spokesman Nadir Azmammadov said on August 15.
Some 10 carriages were sent to Ukraine for maintenance work and 16 to Russia.
"The carriages are expected to be back by the end the year," Azmammadov said.
Azerbaijan, which lacks rail carriage repair technology, have earlier sent 50 carriages to Ukraine for refurbishment.
"Thirty-five of them have already arrived in the country, while 15 carriages are to arrive by the end of this month," he added.
Earlier, Deputy Head of JSC Azerbaijan Railways Gurban Nazirov said that in the framework of the renovation of railcar fleet it is planned to buy 100 new carriages. Also it is planned to buy 50 locomotives for cargo transportations and 12 locomotives for the passenger transportations.
Azerbaijan Railways, the national state-owned rail transport operator in Azerbaijan, ranks 57 in the world for the length of rail roads. About 72 percent or 2,117 kilometres of the total exploitation length of routes fulfills common carrier service and does not include industrial lines.
