ICT sector to rise 4-4.5 times in next 10 years in Azerbaijan - Minister

 “Azerbaijan`s ICT market will grow 4-4.5 times in the next 10 years,” Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov said in an interview for Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

He noted that the country`s GDP would increase two times in accordance with the “Azerbaijan 2020: a look into the future” conception.

“It could be achieved by the development of the non-oil, as well as ICT sector,” the ICT Minister added.

Ali Abbasov also informed about the future prospects of the ICT sector, projects implemented in the frame of the “ICT year”, as well as achievements in the “E-government” project.

The Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry plans to increase its income in the ICT sector to $8-9 billion in 2020. The income obtained from the sector amounted to AZN 1.3 billion ($ 1.7 billion) in 2011.

The volume of the country`s GDP amounted to 50 billion manat in 2011. Bringing this figure to 100 billion manat is one of the main goals for the next 8-10 years.
