Azerbaijan sees increase in salary of employees

The number of employees in Azerbaijan amounted to 1388.2 thousand persons in June, 852.3 thousand people of whom have been working in the public sector, 535,900 people - in non-state, the State Committee on Statistics said on Tuesday.

Some 12.3 percent of the total number of employed is in industry, 6.9 percent - construction, 3 percent - agriculture, forestry and fisheries.

In the service sector 23.9 per cent of employees are engaged in education, 19.4 percent - in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, household and personal products, 9.6 per cent - social and health sector, five per cent - in transport, communications, storage, 3.2 percent - in the scientific and technical activities, 1.9 percent - communications and information technology, 14.8 percent - in other areas.

According to State Statistics Committee, the average salary of employees in Azerbaijan amounted to 397 manat in June, this figure increased by 8.3 percent in January - June compared to the same period last year and amounted to 384.5 manat.

"The wages in such spheres of economy, as mining, financial and insurance activities, information and communication, professional, scientific and technical activities in science and technology, construction and other is above average," the statement said.
