Share of alternative energy sources in Azerbaijan to be increased to 20 percent by 2020

An energy programme will be prepared in November. Accordingly, the areas of the most active development of alternative energy in Azerbaijan and technologies planned to be used will be determined, head of the State Company for Alternative and Renewable Energy Akim Badalov said during the presentation of the medium term action plan for alternative and renewable energy and energy efficiency today.

He said that at present active development work is being conducted in this direction. A decision was made to create a public company in the country to develop alternative energy to intensify the activity.

This decision was taken because this sector is knowledge-intensive and requires the use of modern technologies. It also needs state support in this regard.

The main objectives are to achieve the level of renewable energy in the total energy consumption in Azerbaijan to 20 per cent by 2020.

It is planned to increase energy efficiency to 20 per cent and reduce emissions of gases creating the greenhouse effect to the atmosphere.
