Water supply projectfunded by Japan implemented in Lankaran

Hand-over ceremony of the Project for “Construction of Potable Water Supply System in Kharkhatan Village of Lankaran Region” was successfully implemented within the framework of “Grassroots and Human Security Grant Assistance Program” ($100 min 493) provided by the Government of Japan.

Relevant agreement has been signed between the Embassy of Japan in Azerbaijan and the NGO, Azerbaijan Democratic Student and Youth Organization (ADSYO) in March current year.
The event was attended by local authorities, residents of Lankaran villages, reps of Japanese embassy.

Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Shusuke Watanabe addressed the ceremony.

So far, including this project, 3 projects had been implemented in Lankaran region.
The “Grassroots and Human Security Grant Assistance Program” support projects applied by Municipalities, medical institutions, and NGOs, aiming directly at the improvement of living standards of Azerbaijani people. Such projects might be implemented in the field of poverty reduction, social protection, infrastructure, public health and increase of incomes. The total number of projects contracted in Azerbaijan including this time is 154, and the amount is USD 11,812,290.

The total amount of Japan’s Official Development Assistance provided for the Republic of Azerbaijan is over $1 billion, covering a wide range of areas such as improvement of economic infrastructure, agricultural and social sectors, cultural field as well as human capacity development.
