SOCAR comments on introduction of Euro-3 standards

04 July 2012 [14:19] - TODAY.AZ
The introduction in Azerbaijan of Euro 3 standards on emission of harmful substances by cars does not contradict the fact that the country doesn't produce gasoline corresponding to this standard, SOCAR vice president for refining David Mammadov told reporters on Wednesday.

At the same time the SOCAR representative said that diesel fuel produced in the country is fully consistent with the aforementioned standards. Adopted standards apply to emission of harmful substances, adversely affecting the environment.

According to the vice-president of SOCAR, production of gasoline in the framework of the Euro 3 standard is planned for 2014, when work on the reconstruction of the company's existing refineries is complete.

Further improvement of fuel quality to Euro 5 standards will be possible after SOCAR commissions a new oil and gas processing petrochemical complex, whose construction is planned in the Garadagh district of Baku.

A new standard of fuel and emissions of harmful substances by vehicles - Euro 3 will come into force in Azerbaijan from August 1.

The period of applying the ecological requirements for the third ecological class (Euro 3) is envisaged by AZS 636-2012 standard 'Vehicles. Ecological classes will be determined by the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers.
