Azerbaijan to fight shadow labor market

30 June 2012 [12:52] - TODAY.AZ
The shadow labor market's elimination will start by several government agencies in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani State Social Protection Fund Chairman Salim Muslimov told journalists.

"It is time to seriously address the issue jointly by the State Fund and the Tax Ministry," Muslimov said.

He noted that the total number of unregistered workers will be revealed after the research in this area.

"The majority introduce themselves as persons engaged in business, and the number of persons employed, has not been formally specified. As a result, according to official statistics 4.375 million people are engaged in business in the country today, 1.381 million of whom are
employed workers, "Muslimov said.

The total number of pensioners amounted to 1.375 million people, while every employee accounts for one pensioner.

Therefore, the fund is interested in raising wages, since it affects the state fund revenue growth, including increases in pensions.

"If it does not happen, then the increase in pension payments is made through government financial reserves, as it has been done on behalf of the President, in July last year," Muslimov said.
