The CIS countries got interested in Azerbaijan's experience to build a system of registration of IMEI-codes of mobile phones, Simbrella Director General Seymour Mammadov told Trend on Thursday.
The Simbrella company, performing the functions of a system integrator, has been selected as a structure for the implementation of work for technical construction of the system.
Mammadov said consultations are underway with Kazakhstan, Moldova, Belarus and Russia.
"The project is not particularly complex, both legally and organizationally. Experience from Azerbaijan in building system of registration IMEI-codes of mobile phones, is quite successful, which attracted the attention of other countries. The system will be fully functional in the fall," Mammadov said.
Work on a system of registration of IMEI-codes in Azerbaijan has been conducted for about three years. The project was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan in early 2012. The project involves GSM-operators and government agencies of the republic.
Baku will create control points for mobile phone IMEI codes, assigned by the manufacturer, CEO Caspian Mobile Ilyas Ahmedov told Trend earlier. A pilot project is expected in July.
Control points will be used in dealer stores which will simplify the appeal procedure in case of phone being lost. These centres will take all the necessary documents centrally and can determine the location of the phone if it is in the network after connecting to the operator.
It will also be possible to verify the IMEI code of the mobile phone with the information in the registry through the points.
Access to the generalised database to verify ?ME? codes will be carried out either via SMS messages to the number of any mobile operator, or through the website where information will be available.
The database will be supplemented by ?ME? codes of mobile phones, which will be imported into the territory of Azerbaijan. The new procedure will allow to deal with the theft and the illegal importation of phones in Azerbaijan.
