Germany is interested in direct investments in the Azerbaijani economy, deputy Minister of Economic Development Niyazi Safarov told media following the Azerbaijani-German business forum in Baku today.

"Azerbaijan cooperates with 150 countries and Germany is one of our major trading partners," Safarov said.

He said that in 2011, trade turnover between Germany and Azerbaijan doubled compared to 2010. It increased three-fold during January-April this year compared to the same period last year.

At present, over 100 German companies work in Azerbaijan. They operate in infrastructure projects. The number of Azerbaijani companies in Germany also increased, he added.

He said that the second meeting of the Azerbaijani - German working group on cooperation in trade and investments will be held in November.
