Azerbaijan improves legal framework in field of metrology

19 May 2012 [10:07] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani State Committee on Standardisation, Metrology and Patents has developed a new law "On Assurance of Measurement", which will be soon discussed in parliament, the head of the State Committee's apparatus, Abulfat Imanov, told reporters on Friday.

"A similar law operating today has gaps and does not meet international standards, and the new law will bring the field of metrology of Azerbaijan to the demands of our times," Imanov said.

The law was passed in 2000, and regulates relations in the development, manufacturing, verification, testing, operation, maintenance, sales, imports and exports of measuring instruments. Traceability is a state of measurement in which the results are expressed in the adopted units and measurement errors are within the established boundaries.

Imanov also noted the importance of standards in the field of metrology, particularly in the globalization process, which takes place in the modern world in all directions: health care, environment, defense, energy and other fields.

May 20 is World Metrology Day. On May 20, 1875 in Paris at the International Diplomatic Conference of 17 developed countries of that time the famous Metre Convention was signed.
