
Azersu, National Water Operator, has determined the contractor for the reconstruction of water supply and sewerage system in the city of Sabirabad, Azersu said on Thursday.
The Azerbaijani-Turkish consortium Koço?lu-Art-Akkord won the tender among the eight candidates. The corresponding contract was signed with it on May 17.
According to the project, a reservoir, pump stations, a laboratory for analysis of drinking water and the operations center will be built in Sabirabad. In addition, water distribution network of 141.9 kilometers in length, 96.9 kilometers long sewer network, eight pumping stations will be built, 2,200 subscribers will be connected to the network, as well as 223 fire hydrants will be constructed. Construction work should be completed by 2014.
This project is funded by the Government of Azerbaijan jointly with the World Bank.
The World Bank in 2007 allocated to Azerbaijan its first loan of $ 230 million to improve water supply and sewerage system in the country's regions and another $ 80 million were allocated by the government of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan has been a member of the World Bank since 1992. During that period of cooperation, the World Bank allocated $3 billion to implement 44 projects in Azerbaijan. The current portfolio on 20 projects in Azerbaijan amounts to $2.3 billion.
