Azersu signs works contract under WB project

Azersu (national water operator) has signed a contract with the contractor for the construction of water supply and sewerage system in Saatli - Azersutechizattikinti, the operator said on Monday.

The company won an international tender announced under the World Bank's project "National water supply and sewerage services". Five companies participated in the tender.

Under the project water supply and sewerage system in Saatli will be completely reconstructed. To this end, construction of a reservoir, pumping station, creation of an operational center and water laboratory are envisaged. Along with this intracity water supply lines will be built and connected to the 3,170 addresses of consumers.

According to the project, 395 fire hydrants, major and minor collectors for waste water, 11 sewer pumping stations will be built.

The World Bank in 2007 allocated to Azerbaijan its first loan of $ 230 million to improve water supply and sewerage system in the country's regions and has allocated another $ 80 million to the government of Azerbaijan. After the restructuring of project in the last year work under the project was reduced from 22 to four regions, and the project covers the full restoration of water supply and sewerage system in Shamakhi, Gabala, Saatli and Sabirabad regions.
