18 April 2012 [17:00] - TODAY.AZ
A presentation of the Baku White City project was held at the National Arts Centre of the Foundation 'Forum of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan', in Tashkent.

As is known, the most ecologically unfavourable district of Baku was the so called Black City, where since the second half of the 19th century, many oil refineries, oil terminals and berths carried out processing and transportation of oil. As a result, the land in this industrial factory area was literally soaked with oil and from an environmental point of view was in a completely unusable state.

During the years of independence, repeated efforts of taking plants outside the city, followed by purification began.

The Baku White City project was approved by the special decree of Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev. According to the new development project, a modern and great residential centre will be established on environmentally unfriendly areas polluted by oil and oil waste. Administrative buildings, various trade centres, as well as a boulevard connecting the recreation parks and the new residential centre with the sea will be built here.

Local specialists and employees of foreign companies participated in the development of the project.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended a ceremony of laying the foundation stone of Baku White City in December 2011.

Second secretary of the Embassy of Azerbaijan Sabuhi Ahmedov spoke at the demonstration about the major achievements of Azerbaijan during independence and the fundamental changes that took place in almost all spheres of economic, social and political life, including change for the better of images of the modern Baku, showing the Eastern traditions and European charm.

A slide film about the history of the Black City, on the sewage treatment works, as well as details of the project was shown at the event. Then the Baku White City project was shown in the 3D format, amazing participants by its global and universal nature of design.
