Azerbaijani hotels' income jump

The total income of hotels and hotel-type facilities in Azerbaijan increased by 8.3 percent in 2011 compared with 2010 and reached 114.7 million manat.

Some 76.5 percent of income was received from the sale of rooms, 15.8 percent - from the sale of food, beverages, and the remainder of income - from other services, the State Committee on Statistics told Trend.

Some 258 000 citizens of foreign countries used the services of Azerbaijani hotels and hotel-type facilities last year. It is mostly citizens of Turkey, Russia, UK, Iran, Germany, Ukraine, United States, France, China, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Italy. Some 78.9 per cent of foreigners, who benefited from hotels, arrived in Azerbaijan as tourists.

There were 508 hotels and hotel-type facilities operating in Azerbaijan last year, 6.7 percent of which is state owned and 93.3 per cent - private. Some 17.9 percent of rooms in these hotels - luxury, 40.3 percent - rooms of first class, 41.8 percent - a tourist class.

The number of people placed in hotels and hotel-type facilities increased by 16.3 percent compared with 2010 and amounted to 510.2 thousand, 50.6 percent of them are the citizens of foreign countries.
