New platinum deposit found in Azerbaijan

Platinum group metals were found first ever in Azerbaijan’s Shamkir region. The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Huseyngulu Bagirov says at present geological evaluation works are underway at the deposit, which predicted reserves has been calculated at 50 tonnes.

To him, in recent years, the country produced 4.5 tons of gold. By the end of 2012, it is forecasted to produce a total of 7.5 tons of gold from Gadabay and Chovdar gold deposits.

”As a result of efforts of our geologists, new Tulallar gold deposit (80 tons of gold and 290 tons of silver) was discovered in Goygol region within the past 2 years. Moreover, Goshgardag-Chanagchi gold deposit with reserves of 20 tons was found in Dashkesen region.
