Azerbaijan to accelerate work on full transition to digital broadcasting

The Azerbaijani Communications & IT Ministry discussed the progress of work aimed at the transition to digital broadcasting in DVB-T format.

The Ministry reports that during the discussion with participation of Communications Minister Ali Abbasov it was underlined a need to accelerate work on full coverage throughout the country by digital broadcasting in DVB-T format until the end of this year. Today, 85% of the country’s population is covered by digital TV, which ensures high quality reception of TV programs anywhere in the country.

The meeting stressed the need to enlighten the public about the benefits of the transition to digital broadcasting, as well as prepare proposals for organization of production digital TV sets and adapters in the country in order to promote digital broadcasting. As part of the discussion it was commissioned to take steps on transfer to digital broadcasting by regional TV companies in a way of appropriate use of frequencies. As a result of the discussion it was noted expediency of ceasing analog broadcasting in Azerbaijan by the end of this year by agreeing on this issue with the National TV & Radio Broadcasting Council.
