GUAM members mull cooperation prospects

09 April 2012 [10:46] - TODAY.AZ
Today national coordinators of the GUAM are discussing prospects for cooperation in Baku. National coordinators of the GUAM member states - deputy foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, as well as GUAM Secretary General are considering programs and projects implemented within the organization.

This year, Azerbaijan presides over the organization.

GUAM was established by post-Soviet countries in 1997 during the EU presidential summit in Strasbourg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization, and left four years later. A decision was made to rename GUAM as an international organization "Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM," at the organization's first summit in Kiev in 2006.
