EU seeks deal on Trans Caspian project

14 March 2012 [13:05] - TODAY.AZ
The European Commission hopes to find an agreement on the Trans Caspian gas pipeline project as soon as possible, a source in the European Commission told Trend on Monday.

The negotiations between Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and the European Union continue on the technical level, the source said.

"It is a process that is taking place in a constructive atmosphere and talks are well progressing," the source added. "Conclusions will be found when time is right".

The European Union gave a mandate to start negotiations on the preparation of an agreement between the EU, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on the Trans-Caspian project in September 2011, after which the process began.

It is planed to lay pipeline with the length of 300 kilometers on the Caspian seabed from Turkmenistan to the coast of Azerbaijan in order to link Turkmen resources and possible projects of Caspian gas transportation to Europe.
