Azerbaijan announces volume of grain reserves

The State Grain Fund of Azerbaijan created 500 thousand tons of grain stockpiles in 2011, where 425,000 tons were collected in November - December 2010 and 75 000 tons - for the first quarter of 2011, according to a government report for 2011 presented to the Parliament.

Some 68.5 million manat has been allocated to create a reserve at the four-month demand for grain on the basis of the decision of the Cabinet to ensure a reliable provision of grain products to population.

"At the same time, imports of wheat, rye and meslin, wheat and wheat-rye flour were exempt from VAT until August 1, 2011in order to prevent a rise in prices for imported wheat and wheat flour, as well as to provide the population with bread and bread products," the statement said.

Grain elevator with capacity of 60,000 tons was built in Ganja city in 2011 for storing wheat.
In Baku, the designing of yet another modern grain elevator with capacity of 100 thousand tons was completed along with commissioned grain elevator with capacity of 100,000 tons in December 2010. Delivery of the necessary equipment and facilities for the new elevator has already begun.

Some 1.167 million tons of wheat, including 225,000 tons (19.3 percent) under the State Grain Fund and 181 thousand tons of wheat flour was imported during 2011.
