Tax arrears halve in Azerbaijan

In 2011 due to all measures for enforced collection of taxes in Azerbaijan tax arrears amounting to more than 200 million manat were repaid, head of department for organizing collection of tax debts of the Ministry of Taxes Ilkin Veliyev told reporters on Tuesday.

He said over the past two years volume of the tax debt decreased by 43.5 percent.

"The trend for repayment of tax debts began in 2010. As a result, in 2010 the debt reduced by 20 per cent, in 2010 -11 - 43.5 percent," said Veliyev.

Veliyev spoke on Tuesday with a presentation entitled "The control system of tax arrears" at the first meeting of the working group on management of tax arrears of the Intra-European Organisation of Tax Administrations (IOTA).

Experts on the management of tax arrears from 20 countries-members of IOTA are attending the meeting.

The Working Group will continue to work until March 8. IOTA is an intergovernmental international organization based on membership of the tax administrations. The headquarters of the organization is located in Budapest
