Azerbaijan announces new tender

Azerbaijan Fund for Social Development of IDPs (FSDI) announced a tender procedure for contracting companies for various micro-projects under the project funded by the Government of Azerbaijan jointly with the World Bank (WB).

The Fund's statement, published on Tuesday in the official press, says in order to improve the living conditions of IDPs funds for the implementation of micro projects in infrastructure and services will be allocated.

In the field of infrastructure the Fund envisages implementation of social projects (construction of facilities in health and education), economic (improving water and electricity supply, construction of roads) and environmental (treatment of solid and liquid wastes, construction of sewerage systems and pumping stations). In the service sector the Funds provides for the implementation of measures to clean up the environment, promote development of local cultural centers, purchase furniture and equipment, etc.

Interested organizations should submit information on work experience, successful implementation of similar work over the past three years, legal cases over the past three years, documentation confirming the presence of technical base and financial capacity to perform work.

Contracting companies should submit documentation for participation in tender before16:00 April 3, 2012 at the address: Baku, Tbilisi Ave 57D, FSDI Office, phone (012) 431 87 03/69, fax (012) 431 82 11.

Tender has been announced under a project to improve living conditions and incomes of displaced people in the country. The WB allocated last year $50 million from funds of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development to implement this project. The total project cost is $78.5 million.

The project aims to improve living conditions and increase economic self-sufficiency of internally displaced persons.

Under the project over 200 micro-projects, which will cover 120,000-150,000 people will be implemented. The project will also contribute to improving the living conditions of about 30,000 people. About 1.400 young people will be able to get professional training and grants to start their own business. In addition, about 1,500 micro credits will be given to displaced persons to open or expand their own business.

Overall, about 185,000 internally displaced people in Azerbaijan will have greater access to infrastructure and services; will be able to improve their living conditions and earning potential in this new project of the WB.
