As a part of the State Program of Socio-Economic Development of Regions of Azerbaijan for 2009-2013, about 690 kilometers of roads with national and local importance, including 220 kilometers of rural roads, have been laid and repaired in the country over last year, Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister Shahin Mustafayev said at a conference, speaking on the outcome of the State Program's third year of implementation.

"Under this program, 25 bridges and tunnels were built, and bus station complexes in Gakh and Guba as well as a modern international airport in Gabala were commissioned," Mr Mustafayev said.

He added that 60 automatic exchanges and 31 post offices were opened last year in rural areas, bringing the number of post offices to 1,200.

"In 2011, for every 100 people in Azerbaijan there were 20 owners of computers, whereas in 2009 the figure was only 12. Internet users in the past year were 65 for every 100 people. In all settlements, installations of telephones were completed, and a digital broadcasting network for the region's nine broadcasting stations was installed," Mr Mustafayev said.
